Spending hard-earned money of a Satkhira couple-- a security guard and a domestic help-- for their child's study did not go futile, rather he made them proud being a judge.
The proud parents are Mosharraf Hossain and Mahfuza Khatun of Komarpur village in Debhata upazila, and their son is judge Golam Rasul Sweet.
Sweet has secured the 67th in the 12th Bangladesh Judicial Service and will join as assistant judge in Pirojpur Tuesday. The list was published in gazette published on January 19.
Sweet told Jago News that he grew in a poor family and had to fight with severe poverty. His father worked as security guard and mother worked in people's houses. But they helped him continue study.
After he completed primary, secondary and higher secondary educations, his mother sold her cow at Tk 15,000 and gave him the money to go to Dhaka for higher education.
He, later, spent the money for university coaching but it finished soon. With help from coaching center director, and his peers, he completed coaching period, and got chance in Jagannath University admission test for 2010-11 academic session.
After getting admitted, he struggled for meeting costs of education and accommodation. That is why, he used to tutor many students in a day.
After becoming judge, he brought relief for the parents by making them leave their respective jobs and rest, Sweet added.
He also encouraged poor talented students to continue their studies saying that money is not impediment for doing so but it needs willpower.
Sweet's mother Mahfuza Khatun expressed her gratitude to Allah, and asked people to pray for her son.
"I was a domestic help and his (Sweet) father security guard. We did our best for our child's study. Allah heard our praying. I am very glad, and please all you keep my son in your prayer," she said, crying.
The son of poor parents, Golam Rasul Sweet's job as judge made locals happy, said Parulia Union Parishad member Abdul Alim.
