The High Court has granted four-week anticipatory bail to Prothom Alo’s Editor Matiur Rahman in a case filed over the death of Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC) student Naimul Abrar Rahat.
The bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq passed the order on Monday.
The court asked Matiur to appear before the trail court concerned after expiry of the bail term.
The court also instructed the police to not to harass or arrest five other accused including Associate Editor of the daily Anisul Hoque.
Earlier on January 16, Dhaka’s Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Kaisarul Islam issued arrest warrant against Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman, Associate Editor Anisul Hoque and eight others in the case after accepting charge-sheet.
Ninth grader Abrar died from electrocution during a program organized by Kishor Alo, a monthly youth magazine of Daily Prothom Alo, on the school premises on November 1 last year.
Later, Abrar’s father Mojibur Rahman lodged a lawsuit with Mohammadpur Police Station in this connection.
