Mother and her six-year-old child were killed and eight others injured as a launch collided with another in Meghna river in Chandpur around 1:30am on Monday.
The deceased were identified as Mahmuda Khatun, 25, wife of Rubel of Bhandarkathi in Bakerganj upazila of Barisal and their child.
Abu Taher, officer-in-charge of Chandpur River Police Station, said Barisal-bound launch Farhan-9 from Dhaka hit in the middle of Dhaka-bound launch Kirtonkhola-10 coming from Barishal on Dhaka-Barisal river route at Majher Char area.
The accident left two passengers of Kirtonkhola-10 dead on the spot and eight passengers of both the launches injured, he said.
