The Dhaka International Trade Fair 2020 has kicked off in the capital’s Agargaon area on the first day of the New Year.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 25th edition of the fair at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC) on Wednesday.
Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Commerce Secretary Dr Md Zafar Uddin and Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Vice Chairman Fatima Yesmeen and some top officials of Commerce ministry and EPB were present during this time.
“We have left some open space so that the visitors can walk easily without any human congestion like in previous years,” Tipu Munshi said at a press conference held at the fair ground.
The organisers have spent Tk 23.17 crore to prepare the fairground this year, he said, adding that this time the show will have 483 stalls and pavilions, down from 550 in 2019.
Some 55 foreign companies from 21 countries will take part in this year’s trade fair, the commerce ministry said in a statement.
