Six 'take own lives' after failing exams

At least six students across the country on Tuesday reportedly took their own lives by committing suicide after they could not succed in Junior School Certificate (JSC), and Primary Education Completion (PEC), and annual examinations.

Two examinees reportedly killed themselves in Shariatpur and rest four in Barishal, Netrakona, Rajbari and capital Dhaka.

Today results of the JSC, its equivalent Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC), PEC and its equivalent Ebtedayee exams were published.

Our Shariatpur Correspondent Sagir Hossain said family members of a female JSC examinee in the district claimed that their daughter committed suicide after she failed in Math exam.

Fatema Akter, 14, a student of Idilpur Government High School and daughter of Mostafa Khan of Mitrasenpatti village in Gosairhat upazila, hanged her this afternoon.

Another girl was found hanging in Haji Sadim Ali Bepari village in the same upazila. It was said that she, a fourth grader, took her own life after her mother scolded following her failure in annual exam.

She was identified as Samia Akter, 11, a student of 78 no. Beparikandi Government Primary School and daughter of Siraj Malot.

Gosairhat Police Station officer in-charge Md Selim Reza told Jago News that they recovered the body of schoolgirl Fatema. She failed last year's JSC exam and failed this year too that led her to commit suicide. 

They, later, were informed about death of another girl named Samia. They were told that she committed suicide, the OC added. 

Our Barishal Correspondent Saif Amin said JSC examinee Sahida Akter, 16, reportedly committed suicide by hanging her in their house in Kaunia area in the district city this afternoon.

Quoting relatives, Kaunia Police Station officer in-charge Azimul Karim said Sahida committed suicide by hanging her from the ceiling fan for being failed to secure GPA-5.

Our Netrakona Correspondent Kamal Hossain said a twelve-year-old boy reportedly killed self for poor results in annual exams of Class Six.

Deceased Rudra Sarker Alam was a student of Kalmakanda Government Pilot High School and son of Rakhal Sarker.

Kalmakanda Police Station officer in-charge Md Mazharul Karim confirmed the matter.

Our Rajbari Correspondent Rubelur Rahman said a JSC examinee hanged her after she failed to succed in exam.

Meem Akter, 14, was a student of Char Joukuri High School and daughter of Nahid Shikder of Mohadebpur village under Sadar upazila.

Quoting family members, Rajbari Police Station officer in-charge Swapan Mazumder said a girl named Meem took her own life, and they recovered the body.

Our Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Correspondent said an adolscent boy committed suicide in city's Lalbagh area after he could not pass in JSC exam.

The deceased was identified as Tushar, 14, son of Mojibor Rahman, said DMCH Police Outpost Bachchu Mia.
