Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader have been reelected respectively president and general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League for the next three years.
Sheikh Hasina, daughter of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will lead the party for the ninth term and Obaidul Quader for second term.
They were elected in the top two posts at the second-day session of the two-day national council of the Awami League at the Institute of Engineers, Bangladesh in the city on Saturday.
Awami League presidum member Advocate Abdul Matin Khasru proposed the name of Sheikh Hasina as president of the party and presidum member Pijush Kanti Bhattacharya backed the proposal.
Jahangir Kabir Nanak gave proposal of Obaidul Quader as general secretary of Awami League and joint general secretary Abdur Rahman supported it.
Three-member Election Commission Chairman Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun declared Sheikh Hasina as re-elected as the AL President and Obaidul Quader as general secretary as nobody contested for the posts.
