Keraniganj factory fire death toll climbs to 14

Two more people, who sustained severe burn injuries in Keraniganj plastic factory fire, died in hospital, raising the death toll in the incident to 14.

Severely burn injured Mehedi, 20, and Abdur Razzak, 45, lost their battle for life between early hours and 1:30pm of Thursday at the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Burn Unit resident surgeon AFM Ariful Islam confirmed the deaths, adding that the number of death in the fire was 12 till 11am.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, plastic factory Prime Pet and Plastic Industries Limited at Chunkutia area caught a massive blaze that left one dead on the spot and 31 people injured. 

The injured were rushed to DMCH's burn unit. Among them, 11 patients were sent to Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute adjacent to DMCH.

Fire victims Faisal and Jahangir died at DMCH burn unit around 11:30am while another victim Mehedi passed away at Sheikh Hasina Burn Institute.  

Eight of the injured had died at DMCH burn unit between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
