9 BUET students expelled from halls for lifetime

The authorities of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have expelled nine students for lifetime from its dormitories for ragging their juniors.

BUET’s Directorate of Students’ Welfare director and Board of Residence and Discipline member secretary Mizanur Rahman said this at a press conference on Thursday.

The expelled students are Soumyasachi Das Dibya, Somitra Lahiri, Plabon Chowdhury, Nahid Ahmed, Arnab Chowdhury, MD Forhad Hossain, Mobassher Hossen Shanto, ASM Mahadi Hasan and Akib Hasan Rafin.

They were also suspended from academic activities for different terms. Six of them were resident students of Ahsan Ullah hall while three of Suhrawardy hall.

Besides, 21 other students from their respective halls were warned and suspended for different terms on the same ground.

Following the death of Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of electrical and electronic engineering (EEE), the protesting students of BUET placed a three-point of demand to resume academic activities.

One of the demands was ‘ensuring justice in other incidents of ragging on the campus.’
