A chase and counter-chase have occurred among BNP leaders and activists and police in front of the Supreme Court (SC) in the capital.
The incident took place around 2:00pm on Tuesday. During this, several vehicles were vandalized, halting vehicular movement in the area.
Earlier around 1:30pm today, BNP leaders and activists led by the party vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman suddenly took position at the main gate of the apex court demanding release of the party chairman Khaleda Zia from jail.
Former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is now serving in jail for corruption involving the Zia Orphanage Trust.
At the sit-in, the BNP leaders and activists chanted slogans seeking release of Khaleda Zia but no other top level leader was seen in the sudden agitation.
Police, later, dispursed the agitators and brought the situation under control. Police also locked all gates of the country's top court premises.
