Three killed in wild elephant attacks

Three people were in three separate incidents of wild elephants in Boalkhali upazila of Chattogram on Sunday morning.

The incidents took place in Kadhurkhali, Syednagar and Jaishthapura areas of the upazila.

Kadhurkhil ward no. 1 UP member Abdul Karim told Jago News that a wild elephant attacked Abu Taher Mistri, 60, while working in a field, leaving him dead on the spot. 

In Syednagar, Zaker Hossain, 65, former headmaster of Charandwip Bijan Bibi Government Primary School, came in a attack by wild elephants and died.

Fahmina Afroz, daughter of the deceased, said a flock of elephants attacked her father beside Chandarhat Jame Masjid this morning, leaving him seriously injured. 

He was rushed to the upazila health complex. He was later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. 

In Jaishthapura, farmer Abdul Mabud, 60, lost his life to attack by the same elephant flock, confirmed local UP member Md Hasan Chowdhury. 

Boalkhali Police Station inspector (investigation) Muhammad Helal Uddin Faruqui said they have heard the deaths .

A drove of elephants came to locality from Jaishthapura hill in the early hours of Saturday. These stayed at East Kadhurkhil 'Baitul Jame Masjid' at a garden whole day. 

On Sunday morning, these became divided into two- one flock went towards Kadhurkhil-Chandwip and another to hill through Kharandwip.
