Three people, including a minor girl, were killed and five others injured in a fatal road crash in Chandina upazila of Cumilla early Sunday.
Among the deceased, one is identified as Robja, 7, daughter of Makbul Hossain of Ashoktola in the district. The rest two are a man and a woman, police assumed.
The injured are Abul Kashem, 50, Jashim Uddin, 48, Sajib, 20, of Daulatpur area in Adrarsha Sadar upazila, Dulal Mia, 45 of Dhanpur area, Maznu Mia, 50, of Balarampur in Sadar Dakshin upazila and Robja’s mother Halima Begum, 45.
Witnesses said a microbus stopped at Gobindapur station on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway around 5:30am to pick passenger.
During this time, a bus hit the microbus from behind. At the same time, a truck also hit the microbus and the latter overturned on the highway and gas cylinder of the vehicle exploded, causing the casualties.
Chandina Fire Service and Civil Defense Station officer Safiq Uddin Munshi said being informed, they rushed to the spot and recovered three dead bodies from the scene and rescued the injured.
Chandina Upazila Health on-duty doctor Delwar Hossain said 25% to 50% of bodies of the injured were burnt and they were given treatment.
Jashim Uddin, sub-inspector of Moynamati Crossing Police Station of Highway Police, confirmed the incident.
