JU closed sine die

Authorities have closed down Jahangirnagar University (JU) for an indefinite period following the movement of the students and teachers.

The decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting headed by Vice Chancellor Professor Farjana Islam on Tuesday.

The students have been asked to vacate halls by 4.30pm.

Earlier in the morning, at least 35 people including journalists were injured when a group of leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of JU unit attacked the agitating students and teachers on the campus on Tuesday.

The students and teachers came under the attack around 11am when they were demonstrating in front of the VC’s residence demanding removal of the VC.

The agitators also confined the VC in her residence on Monday night.
