A Chittagong court has sentenced BNP leader Giasuddin Quader Chowdhury, the younger brother of executed war criminal Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, to death in a case filed for giving death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Chittagong Senior Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaisar passed the order on Wednesday.

The court also fined him Tk 5 thousand in default of which he will have to serve 3 more months in jail.

On May 29, last year, Giasuddin said at a discussion on the 37th death anniversary of late president and BNP founder Ziaur Rahman that, “There was no one to say Inna Lillahi Wa Innailayhi Raji’un after the death of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The prime minister’s fate will be even more dangerous. She has to take the responsibility of those being killed in the name of crossfire.”

He also described the prime minister as a threat to the country.
