JL leader Samrat arrested from Khulna, taken to Dhaka

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Jubo League’s Dhaka South unit President Ismail Hossain Samrat and his associate Arman from Cumilla early Sunday.

They were arrested from Kunjosreepur village of Alkora union in Chauddagram upazila of the district around 5am. 

They were taken to Dhaka, said RAB’s Director General (operations) Colonel Tofail Mostofa Sarowar. 

Samrat had taken shelter in the house of transport businessman Monir Hossain in the area, said a local people.

On September 24, the government imposed a travel ban on Samrat after his name came in the spotlight during the clampdown for his alleged link with running casinos at different sporting clubs in Dhaka.

Bangladesh Bank also sought details of Samrat’s bank accounts.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal recently said the Jubo League leader would be arrested if police found any proof against him.
