DNCC budget gives priority to mosquito control

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) today placed a Taka 3,057.24 crore budget for the fiscal 2019-20 laying emphasis on mosquito control under the jurisdiction of the city corporation, reports BSS. 

The city corporation allocated Taka 49.30 crore for mosquito control this year, considered to be the highest-ever allocation, due to the prevalence of dengue.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam unveiled the budget at a press conference at the Nagar Bhaban in the city’s Gulshan area. It is his first budget after assuming the office and also the last one as the tenure of the office would expire before the next budget.

The revised budget for the FY2018-19 stood at Taka 1,822.63 crore while the actual budget was Taka 2,567.45 lakh. The DNCC has increased Taka 489.79 crore in the budget for FY 2019-20 in comparison to FY2018-19.

In his budget speech, Atiqul said the DNCC projected to collect a total of Taka 1,106.40 crore as revenue to meet the budget financing from its own sources while the mayor is expecting to get Taka 100 crore as government grant, Taka 50 crore as special grant from the government and Taka 1,564.60 crore as the government and foreign assistances for different projects.

The city corporation is expecting that the income from holding tax, Bazar Salami, trade license, asset transfer taxes and road excavation fees will be increased.

The DNCC has allocated Taka 551.40 crore for revenue cost, including salary and other benefits of its employees, city waste management, mosquito control, renovation and maintenance and power, energy and water supply, while Taka 2,335.74 crore for development.

Replying to a question from a journalist, the DNCC mayor said that the mosquito elimination programme will continue throughout the year.

The city corporation will import 42,000 LED lights for the city corporation areas, Atiqul said, adding that four parks in the city will be opened for the public by next October while tender for development work of other eight parks is under process.

The DNCC panel mayor, Chief Executive Officer Md Abdul Hai, its high officials and councilors of different wards were present on the occasion.
