Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to fund for upgrading the country’s four highways to four lanes, reports BSS.
Country Director Manmohan Parkash today disclosed the ADB’s decision when he made a courtesy call on Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader at the secretariat here today, said a press release.
The highways are Dhaka-Sylhet Highway, Rangpur-Banglabandha Highway, Rangpur-Bhurimari Highway and Faridpur-Barishal Highway.
Apart from the four lanes, the highways will have a separate lane for slow-moving vehicles.
Manmohan Parkash said, responding to the request of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, ADB is going to finance for development of the national highways, the release said.
Feasibility studies on the Faridpur-Barishal and Rangpur-Bhurimari highways have already been done in this regard.
Obaidul Quader thanked the ADB country director for their continuous assistance for the road infrastructure development in Bangladesh.
