Barrister Mainul denied bail, sent to jail

A Dhaka court has denied bail to Barrister Mainul Hussein and sent him to jail in a defamation case filed by journalist Masuda Bhatti.   

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain on Tuesday passed the order after Barrister Mainul surrendered before the court and prayed bail for him. 

On October 16, last year, during a television talk show aired in Ekattor TV the former caretaker government adviser called Masuda Bhatti “characterless.”

On October 21, Masuda Bhatti filed a defamation case against Barrister Mainul before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court. 

Mainul was picked up by a DB team from the residence of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) President ASM Abdul Rab in the capital’s Uttara on October 22. Later, the High Court granted bail to him in the case.
