A woman died of dengue while undergoing treatment at a private medical college hospital in Khulna early Tuesday, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Rahima Begum, 58, wife of Yasin Ali of Sonabaria village of Satkhira’s Kalaroa upazila.
Dr Quamrul Islam, health officer at Kalaroa Upazila Health Complex, said Rahima was admitted to Satkhira CB Hospital with dengue one week ago.
Three days later, she was shifted to Khulna Medical College Hospital and then to Gazi Medical College Hospital (GMCH) following deterioration of her condition.
However, she died at the hospital in the early hours of Tuesday, Dr Quamrul said, adding the woman was also suffering from some other diseases like diabetics and hypothyroidism.
Her husband Yasin was also suffering from dengue and received treatment at GMCH. Later, he was referred to Dhaka for better treatment.
A total of 482 dengue patients have so far been identified in the district.
Of them, 40 are currently receiving treatment at different hospitals while 345 others returned home after getting cured.
Besides, 97 patients were referred to other hospitals outside the district.
Dr Abu Shahin, district civil surgeon, said those who are being treated at different hospitals in Satkhira are out of danger.
