One killed in Mymensingh 'gunfight' with police

An active member of the inter-district auto-snatcher was killed in a gunfight with the District Intelligence Police (DB) in Mymensingh. Two policemen, including an SI, were injured in the alleged crossfire.

The incident took place at Badekalpa in Mymensingh city in the wee hour on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Khalil, 37, son of late Abdul Jalil from Dapunia village of Jamalpur Sadar upazila. He lived in Bacchala area of Fulbaria upazila in Mymensingh.

Police said a group of DB police conducted a raid on the news that members of several inter-district auto-snatcher were buying stolen auto-rickshaws in Badekalpa area of Mymensingh. At that time, the thieves started firing at the police as they got their presence. Police also opened fire in self-defense. At one point the members of the thief escaped. But Khalil was arrested in the firing squad. Later, he was rescued and sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

There were 10 cases including 8 auto-rickshaw stealing under Khalil's name in the local police station. Two stolen auto-rickshaw and pipe-gun were seized from the spot, said Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of local DB police.
