Eight ‘jhut’ warehouses, four houses gutted in Gazipur fire

Eight warehouses of garment scraps (locally called ‘jhut’) and four houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Ambag of Konabari area on Friday, reports UNB.

Joydebpur Fire Service Inspector Jakaria Khan said the fire originated at the warehouse of Abdul Hannan around noon. “It soon engulfed seven other warehouses owned by Palash, Mohammad Ali and Abul Hosain and four houses,” he said.

Three firefighting units from Konabari and Joydebpur extinguished the flame after about 90 minutes of frantic effort.

The cause of the fire could not be known yet.

Owners of the warehouses claimed that the fire destroyed goods worth about Tk 20 lakh.
