Man to die for killing wife in city

A tribunal here on Thursday sentenced a man to  death for killing  his wife for dowry in the city’s Badda area in 2005, reports UNB.

The court also fined convict Saidur Rahman Milton Tk 50,000, in default, to suffer three months more rigorous imprisonment.

According to the case statement, Milton demanded Tk 5 lakh  from victim Sharmin Sultana Hiya’s family as dowry while her family gave him Tk 2 lakh.

On September 9, 2005, Milton strangled his wife to death following an altercation over dowry while she was four-month pregnant. After the murder Milton surrendered to police and confessed to his crime.

Victim’s uncle filed a case with Badda Police Station in this regard.

On December 18, police submitted a charge sheet against the convict while the charges were framed on March 1, next year.

After examining the records and witnesses, Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Khademul Kayes passed the order.
