Chhatra League leaders sued for snatching goats

Some nine leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), including the president of Mohammadpur thana have been sued for attempting to snatch 212 goats in capital.

The suspected snatchers were reportedly involved in ruling party’s politics, the local sources said.

The main suspect, Mohammadpur thana Chhatra League president was identified as Mujahid Azmi Tanna and the plaintiff as goat trader Syful Islam.

According to the statement noted by police, a group of traders were coming to Dhaka’s cattle hat from Jesssore and Jhenaidah carrying some 212 goats who were stopped by the suspected BCL leaders at Jahuri Mahalla area of Mohammadpur on Babar road on 11 August for extortion.

The Chhatra League leaders took the goats including the traders Syful Islam, Babu Sheikh, Sheikh Soleman, Md Nurujjaman, Faruk Bishwas and Masud Mandal down the cattle-laden truck and brought them to a club room belonging to the president.

Tipped of the snatching, a group of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-2 spotted immediately and freed them from the hostage situation.

Being caught by RAB-2 the accused men disclosed that, the key suspect was Mujahid Azmi Tanna. There were another associates, who were identified as Yasir Arafat, 28, Jahidul Islam, 29, Md Raihan, 27, Jashim, 22, Ratul, 22, Tanvir, 20, Hira, 20, Tanmay, 25 and 6 others including Parvez assisted him, what was confirmed to Jago News by Ganesh Chandra Bishwas, Officer-in-Charge of Mohammadpur police station.

A case has been filed by RAB-2 under Telecommunication Act and three has already been sent to jail by producing court, Ganesh Chandra confirmed.
