Rough weather forced suspension of launch and speed boat services on the Mawa-Kathalbari route going on Wednesday morning, reports UNB.
Md Aminul Islam, in-charge of Mawa River Police camp, said no launch or speed boat left the terminal since 10am on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, a child had gone missing after a speed boat sank in the Padma River around 8am. The young boy was identified as Deen Islam Hossain, 8, son of Siddiqur Rahman of Mollar Hawla village in Kauarchar of Barishal.
The speed boat, carrying 19 passengers, overturned because of strong wind while going to Kathalbari terminal from Shimulia.
Other speed boats rescued 18 passengers but Deen Islan remained missing. Members of Bangladesh Army, Fire Service and River Police are scouring the river.
