Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) remained on high alert on Tuesday to prevent illegal rawhide smuggling through the Hili land port, reports UNB.
Joypurhat-2 BGB Battalion Commander Lt Col Rashed Mohammad Anisul Haque said they received directives from the Home Ministry and BGB Headquarters in this regard.
BGB has increased patrolling in the border area and installed surveillance cameras too, he said.
Muslims in Bangladesh observed their second largest religious festival Eid-ul-Azha on Monday. On the day, they sacrificed animals to please Allah and commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s devotion to Allah as illustrated by his readiness to give up his beloved son Ismail.
The Department of Livestock Services had told UNB that the demand for sacrificial animals was 1,10,00,000 this year.
Many unscrupulous traders try to smuggle rawhide to the neighbouring country after the Eid.
