Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday warned that the government will not tolerate any kind of extortion at the city’s Karwan Bazar, reports UNB.
The minister came up with the warning while addressing a cleanliness drive.
Issuing a warning to extortionists, the minister said, “I clearly said if you (extortionists) don’t stop extortion then leave Karwan Bazar…no one involved in criminal activities and extortion will be allowed there. Stern actions will be taken against those involved in extortion.”
Before the Awami League came to power, the minister said, at least one murder incident used to take place every month at Karwan Bazar. “But, it has stopped now following the government’s initiative.”
