Thakurgaon bus collision leaves 9 people dead

Nine people were killed and 30 others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on Thakurgaon-Dhaka highway at Borokhochabari in Sadar upazila on Friday, reports UNB.

One of the deceased was identified as bus driver Chaina, 40 while the identities of others could not be known immediately.

The fatal road crash took place around 8 am when a bus of ‘Dipzol Paribahan’ from Dhaka collided with another bus of ‘Nishat Enterprise’ coming from the opposite direction, leaving five people dead on the spot and 32 others injured, said AshiqurRahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

Twenty four injured people were taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared two people dead.

However, a motorcycle and a three-wheeler carrying passengers also got crushed between the buses. Five people died on the spot, Fire Service worker Mizan said.

Two other died after being taken to Thakurgaon Adhunik Sadar Hospital, and one body was recovered from the crushed minibus, Mizan added.

Hospital sources and witnesses said at least 50 people were injured. The number of casualties and injured might increase, Fire Service sources said.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be disclosed.
