Garment worker killed; Police open fire in capital, 2 injured

A garment worker was allegedly beaten to death triggering protest to block an intersection in capital’s Rampura area on Thursday.

Police opened fire to disperse the protesters and charged lathi leaving 2 injured including Officer-in-Charge of Hatirjheel police station Abdur Rashid.

Abdur Rashid, who also the Assistant Commissioner of Tejgaon divisional police was hit by bricks when he went to intercept the protesters from vandalizing a garment in Rampura in the afternoon.

“When a group of anger workers who blocked an intersection, were preparing to vandalize Easy Garment in Rampura, police stopped them and dispersed” Deputy Commissioner of Tejgaon division, Anisur Rahman told Jago News.

He said, a worker named Deloar who was a machine operator in Easy Garment, beaten to death by some mate workers on the suspicion of theft. He allegedly thrown some cloths down cited by some workers and on the suspicion he was beaten to death instead of handing over him to police.

Later then, Deloar was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital by the garment authority without informing police where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctors. On the eve, police will sue with murder charge, he added.
