‘Drug trader’ killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

An alleged drug trader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ in Harra area of Sadar upazila here early Friday, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Rafikul Islam, 40, son of late Mohon Ali of Haripur village of the upazila.

Nasir Uddin, Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, said on information about a gunfight between two groups of drug traders, police rushed to the spot at 1 am.

Sensing the presence of police, the drug traders open fired on police members, prompting them to fire back, triggering the triangular gunfight, leaving Rafiqul injured with bullet.

Later, police recovered the injured man and took him to Kushtia General Hospital where doctor declared him dead.

Police recovered a pistol, two rounds of bullet and 380 Yaba tablets from the spot, the OC added.

Police said the deceased was an identified drug trader and he was wanted in seven cases including that of drugs and arms.
