Child-lifting rumour; 3 beaten to death

People have beaten a woman suspecting abductor to death at Uttar Badda area in capital on Saturday morning. The doctors of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) declared the female dead when she was sent to there in a critical condition, Rofiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Badda police station, confirmed the matter to Jago News.

The woman was not identified immediately.

Earlier in the day, the mob at vegetable market area of Uttar Badda found 3 women with veil (Nekab) and one of them was killed when they were suspected as abductor to the people, Rofiqul Islam said.

When police heard the news spotted immediately and rescuing the woman sent to DMCH where she was declared dead, he added.

Locals said, around 8 am in the day, the suspected veiling women were trying to enter Uttar Badda Govt. Primary School and a madrasa, they were interrupted by people and challenged but two of them fled the spot. Mob were able to hunt one around 9 am, who has been beaten to death.

In Narayanganj, an unknown youth was beaten to death by a mob at Alaminnagar in Siddhirganj upazila in the morning, reports UNB.

Witnesses said the youth was found holding the hands of a schoolgirl around 8:30am.

As locals asked him about his relations with the girl, he failed to give any satisfactory reply, prompting them to suspect him as a child lifter.

At one stage, the angry mob beat him mercilessly that left him critically injured.

He was taken to Narayanganj General Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead, said Mir Shahin Pervez, officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj Police Station.

Meanwhile, another woman was beaten by locals over a child-lifting rumour at Shapla Chattar in the upazila.

Locals said the woman, Rehena, went to a house and gave a doll to a child.

Later, they gave her a good beating around 9am and locked her into a local primary school.

On information, police rescued the woman and took her to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment under their custody, police said.
