Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has invited the agitating rickshaw-pullers and owners to a tea party.
He invited them while addressing at a workshop held at Hotel Sonargaon on Tuesday.
He said: “I am inviting the licensed rickshaw-pullers and owners to a tea party at Nagar Bhaban. We can solve the ongoing crisis through a discussion.”
However, rickshaw-pullers blocked roads in different areas of the city protesting the decision banning the plying of rickshaws on three major thoroughfares of the capital, including the Kuril-Sayedabad one.
They also blocked the important thoroughfare in Uttar Badda and beneath the Badda U-loop.
The protesting rickshaw-pullers were seen chanting slogans in favour of their demand to lift the ban on rickshaw plying.
On July 3, a special committee, formed with DSCC Mayor as its head, decided that three major streets would be made off-limits to rickshaws from July 7, in a bid to ease traffic congestion in the capital.
The three roads are Kuril-Sayedabad road by Rampura and Khilgaon, Gabtoli to Azimpur via Asad Gate and Science Laboratory intersection to Shahbagh intersection.
