Renowned playwright Momtazuddin no more

Renowned playwright, director and actor Momtazuddin Ahmed passed away on Sunday. He was 84.

He breathed his last at 3:30 pm while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in the capital. 

His companion Prof Ratan Siddiqui confirmed the death to Jago News. 

Prof Momtazuddin was admitted to the hospital on October 20 after his asthmatic problem worsened. 

He was born in 1935 in Chapainawabganj and directly involved in the Language Movement during his college days at Rajshahi Government College. 

Momtazuddin authored a number of dramas. Among them ‘Ki Chaho Shankhachil’ and ‘RajarAnusharer Pala’ have been included in the syllabus of Rabindra Bharati University of Kolkata. 

Natyatroyee, Hridoyghatita Bepar Shepar, Zamidar Darpan, Saat Ghater Kanakari. He has also edited Neeldarpan andSirajuddoula are some notable dramas penned by Prof Momtazuddin.

He won EkusheyPadak (1997), Bangla Academy Award, Shishu Academy Award and many morein recognition of his contributions to theatre and literature.
