Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the Second Meghna Bridge and the Second Gumti Bridge on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway on May 25, reports BSS.
“The construction of the bridges has almost been finished. The prime minister is expected to open the bridges through a videoconference from her official Ganabhaban residence on May 25,” Road Transport and Highways Division sources said.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal today expressed his optimism that the construction of the bridges will end soon and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the bridges for ensuring smooth journey of the homebound people during the Eid-ul-Fitr.
“After opening the bridges, traffic condition will improve. During the Eid vacation, people will enjoy smooth journey compared to the previous years,” he told journalists after a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) at the Cabinet Division in the city.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Second Kanchpur Bridge on the river Shitalakkhya on March 16 this year.
Japanese contractors Obayshi Corporation, Shimizu Corporation, JFE Engineer Corporation, and IHI Infra Systems Company Ltd started the constructions of the 2nd Kanchpur bridge along with the 2nd Meghna and 2nd Meghna-Gumti bridges on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in January 2016.
