Subir Nandi’s body reaches home

The body of national award-winning singer and composer Subir Nandi, who died at a hospital in Singapore on Tuesday, arrived in Dhaka early Wednesday.

His body arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a flight of Regent Airways around 6am and has been taken to his Green Road apartment.

Nandi’s body will be kept at Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka at 11am where people can pay their last respects. Later the body will be taken to Ramakrishna Mission.

The funeral of the noted musician will be held at the Barodeswori Kali Temple in capital’s Sabujbagh.

Subir Nandi was taken to Singapore on April 30. His health condition deteriorated once again on Monday as he had suffered from multiple organ failure at the hospital.

Earlier, he was admitted to Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka on April 14 after he fell ill while returning to Dhaka from Srimangal by a train.

He underwent a bypass surgery in the USA in 2013 for critical triple vessel coronary artery disease and had an angioplasty in the USA earlier this year.

Subir Nandi won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer five times for his performance in the films Mahanayak (1984), Shuvoda (1986), Srabon Megher Din (1999), Megher Pore Megh (2004) and Mohua Sundori (2015).

He was awarded Ekushey Padak in 2019.
