Fakhrul’s Bogura-6 seat declared vacant

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today informed the Jatiya Sangsad that the Bogura-6 constituency was fall vacant as BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir who was elected in the 11th parliamentary elections failed to take oath within stipulated time.

The Jatiya Sangsad Speaker said, the Bogura-6 constituency fell vacant as Fakhrul failed to take his oath as a lawmaker with the time period the country’s constitution allows, reports BSS.

According to the Article 67 of the constitution, a member of Parliament shall vacate his seat if fails to make oath or affirm to do so within the 90 days from the date of the first sitting of parliament after his election.

Fakhrul was supposed to take oath by April 29 (Monday), the last date of taking oath.

The 11th parliament formed through the December 30 general election went into its maiden session on January 30, 2019.
