Work order for demolishing BGMEA building by April: Minister

Housing and Public Works Minister SM Rezaul Kairm today said the government would issue work order for demolishing the BGMEA building in the last week of April.

“Within the next three months, debris will be removed from there and modern technology will be used for demolishing the building,” he said while talking to journalists at his ministry office, reports BSS.

Eventually, the procedure will be finalised on April 25 for what kind of method will be followed to demolish the BGMEA building as the government has already floated tender for demolishing the building, he said.

“If we do not get capable local firm to demolish the structure, we will go for foreign company for demolishing the Bhaban,” Rezaul said.

In June 2016, the Appellate Division upheld the High Court verdict ordering the demolition of the structure, with the BGMEA to bear the cost of demolition.
