Tearful Taskin vows to make a strong comeback

Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed vowed to make a strong comeback after being snubbed from the 15-member World Cup squad, announced by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) today.

Chocked with emotions as tears were rolling down from his cheek Taskin shared his disappointments with media, reports BSS.

”Its’ ok just pray for me,” Taskin told reporters today without trying to hide his tears . ”I tried my level best to regain my fitness but unfortunately probably that was not enough.”

”What can I say apart from terming it just bad luck,” he said.

”The only thing that I can say is that I will make a comeback by performing consistently,” he added.

Earlier Taskin announced that he can still make it into the World Cup squad by regaining fitness ahead of the cricket’s biggest extravaganza.

Taskin returned to the national fold when he was picked for the New Zealand tour following his performances in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) where he snared up 22 scalps in 12 games. But a freakish ankle injury sustained in one of those games while attempting a catch at the boundary line ruled him out of the tour.

Following the injury, Taskin was advised three weeks rest to recover fully while a rehabilitation program was also put in place.

To prove his match fitness he even played in the DPL but all his efforts went into vain as national selection panel kept faith on uncapped Abu Jayed Rahi ahead of the fast bowler.

”We were thinking of him for a long time,” said chief selector Minhajul Abedin regarding their plan about Taskin.

“But he played his last international game in 2017 and later we included him for the New Zealand series but he failed to make it due to injury,” Minhajul added.

”He is not totally fit and we don’t want someone who is just fit skill-wise,” he remarked.

“He played a match in the domestic league on the back of skill fitness but that does not imply he is totally fit,” he said.

Minhajul added that all is not over for Taskin as he still has time to prove his fitness and can be added as back-up at some point in the future.

”He still have time and if he can prove that he is hundred percent fit as we need him, we can always kept as our back-up because he is in our 20-member preliminary squad,” he concluded.
