Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s wait to become only second Bangladeshi bowler to claim 400 List A wicket lingers on as for the second consecutive time he again went wicket-less in a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match against Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
Abdur Razzak has recently claimed 400 List A wickets as the first Bangladeshi bowler in this ongoing DPL before being also the first bowler from this country to take 500 wickets in first class cricket, reports BSS.
Mashrafe, the Abahani pacer, hauled 2-48 against Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club to stand on 399 wickets in List A cricket. With just one wicket shy to be the second Bangladeshi bowler, he couldn’t take any wicket in the match against Legends of Rupganj as he could deliver only three overs to concede 15 runs after Abahani were bowled out for 122 to taste a humiliating six-wicket defeat.
Expectation was high on him to touch the milestone against Sheikh Jamal but he disappointed again. In this match he delivered 9.5 overs and gave away 40 runs to be wicket-less. In fact Tanbir Hyder hit him boundary to ensure the team’s all important victory.
Mashrafe’s dipping form is one of the reasons that Abahani lost these two matches in a row to be displaced from the top spot. In this DPL, Mashrafe so far played nine matches and took just 10 wickets.
With 399 List A wickets, Mashrafe currently is in the ninth place amongst the pacer from sub-continent. The list is led by Pakistan’s Wasim Akram who scalped 881 List A wickets in his career.
