World Health Day Sunday

The country is set to observe the World Health Day tomorrow to make the people aware about their right to access to the highest level of health services.

The World Health Day-2019 will be observed in Bangladesh and elsewhere across the world amid holding different programmes, reports BSS.

The theme of the day is “Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for Primary Health Care (PHC) with a focus on equity and solidarity” to stress on the principle so that all people should be able to realize their right to the highest possible level of health services.

To mark the day, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Directorate General of Health Service and various non-government organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes including seminars, publishing souvenirs and supplements in national dailies and cultural programmes in Dhaka and elsewhere.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleaque will inaugurate the national level programme at Krishibid Institution of Bangladesh (KIB) Auditorium in Khamarbari area in the city at 10.30 am tomorrow.

Under the direct supervision of the district and upazila health offices, the day will also be observed at the district and upazila levels throughout the country.

The World Health Day is a global health awareness day being observed every year on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the founding of the World Health Organization (WHO), and it provides us with a unique opportunity to mobilize action around a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world.

President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today issued separate messages on the eve of the Day.

In his message, the President said working manpower is essential for overall development of the country and the government has been working tirelessly to provide proper healthcare including prevention of diseases and development of nutrition sector.

The standard of treatment in the country has improved with developed infrastructure, skilled manpower, ultra modern equipment and digital technology used in health system introduced by the government.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her message, reiterated her government’s commitment to safeguard the health of the people.

The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took exemplary steps through expanding healthcare services at union level to reach medical services at the doorsteps of the people, she said.

Following the steps of Bangabandhu, the government has been working tirelessly to develop the health service of the country and received various international awards like MDG Award, South South Award and Gavi Award, she added.

Both the President and the Prime Minister said theme of the Day is very time befitting.

They wished success of the Day.
