Trade license will be cancelled in faulty buildings: Atiqul

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam today said if irregularities, including non-availability of fire safety provision, in the multi storied buildings are found, the trade license of the business organizations of the concerned building will be cancelled, reports BSS.

“The owner of the building will be warned first if the fire safety is not adequate in a building… If it is a business organisation, then its trade license will be cancelled if necessary. If it does not work then the legal steps will be taken by sending magistrates against the accused persons.” he told the journalists.

He was speaking at the inaugural programme of activities of ten ‘building inspection teams’ of the DNCC on fire safety alert in city’s Gulshan area.

The mayor urged those working in any building to check whether the structure accommodates fire safety provision or not. “If you find non-availability of fire safety provision, inform me (Mayor) about it,” he added.

“After receiving the complaint, I will send a team immediately to the concerned building and the identity of the complainant will be kept secret”, the Mayor added.

He said two teams led by a regional executive officer have been formed in each of the five regions under DNCC.

Each team is comprised of 10 to 15 members, including representatives of the DNCC, Fire Service and NGOs.

DNCC Chief Executive Office Abdul Hai, Secretary Rabindra Shree Barua, Project Director of DNCC’s Urban Resilience project Dr Tariq Bin Yusuf and representatives of fire service, were present on the occasion.
