At least five people were killed and fifteen others injured as a passenger-bus losing its control overturned and fell into a roadside a ditch in Gaibandha early Saturday.
The incident took place on Rangpur-Dhaka highway at Jummarghar area in Gobindaganj upazila of the district around 3:30 pm.
Three of the deceased were identified as Riaz Uddin of Mithapukur upazila in Rangpur, Mahabul Islam of Patgram upazila in Lalmonihart and Suneel Kumar of Tangail.
The accident occurred due to the reckless driving of the driver, said injured passengers.
Ramkrishna Barman, Gobindaganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer, said a body will be formed to investigate the incident.
“Each of the deceased family has been given Tk 10,000,” he said.
According to the highway police, three people were killed and seventeen others injured as a Burimari-bound night-coach of Barkat Enterprise losing its control overturned and fell into a road-side ditch in the area. Later two more people died on the way to hospital. On information, members of highway police and fire service rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies from the spot.
