Shakib upset to be dropped from Sunrisers squad

Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was upset to be dropped from the Hyderabad Sunrisers squad after playing just one game in Indian Premier League (IPL) but didn’t feel ignored.

He rather understood the team’s situation as he explained further that the rest of the overseas performer performing so well that it was tough to get a place in the first XI.

“Obviously from personal point of view, it is disappointing,” Shakib said in a ‘Sports Tak’ programme in which Sunrisers team mentor VVS Laxman and all-rounder Vijay Shankar were also present, reports BSS.

“But sometimes you need to understand the situations of the team. The team we got, we got a formidable squad, 6-7-8 combination. All the overseas players are playing, they are performing really well. So I have to wait for my opportunities. When the time comes, I hope I can perform.”

In his only match against Kolkata Knight Riders, he didn’t get the opportunity to bat but bowled 3.4 overs to take one wicket, conceding 42 runs.

He faced the heat when he was given the responsibility to defend 13 runs in the final over, but Shubhman Gill (18) struck him two sixes in his second and fourth delivery to take Kolkata to winning mark 183-4.

Shakib, who turned 32 on that match, however had begun well dismissing danger man Chris Lynn (7) in the last ball off his first over.

After that defeat Sunrisers won two consecutive matches without Shakib. However, the Bangladesh ace hopes that the winning-streak of Sunrisers will be continued, no matter whether he gets the chance to play or not.

“Only thing I can think of hope we continue this performance and keep winning for orange army,” Shakib said.
