Imprisoned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia was finally taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for treatment on Monday noon.
An ambulance carrying her reached BSMMU at 12:36 pm.
She was escorted out from Old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road around 12:20pm.
Her escort comprised of at least 10 to 12 vehicles of police, Rapid Action Battalion, Fire Service and Civil Defence and jail authorities.
Security measures were beefed up surrounding the BSMMU today as part of preparations of taking the BNP chairperson there.
Earlier in the beginning of last month, Khaleda Zia refused to go to BSMMU hospital for treatment despite jail authorities’ preparations to receive her.
On February 8, 2018, Khaleda Zia landed in jail after her conviction in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case, where she was handed a five-year jail term.
Later, she was also convicted in Zia Charitable Trust graft case and handed a seven-year term.
