Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today urged the Fire Service and Civil Defence to investigate the recent fire incidents intensely and determine whether those are accidents or sabotages.
The mayor made the call while addressing a view exchange meeting titled ‘Safe chemical management, preparations after Chawkbazar incident’ at Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) auditorium in the city as the recent fire incidents raised questions among the people, BSS reported.
In support of an appeal made by old Dhaka’s businessmen, he requested the director general (DG) of Fire Brigade to set up a fire station at Babu Bazar area in the city’s old part so the fighter teams could reach any spot quickly, said a DSCC press release.
The DSCC mayor suggested the traders to coordinate with finance and commerce ministries and National Board of Revenue (NBR) about importing extremely flammable 35 items through TCB.
DCCI President Osama Taseer presided over the meeting, which was also addressed by Fire Brigade and Civil Defence DG Sajjad Hossain, businessmen Arif Hossain and Waker Ahmed, among others.
