Pro-Awami League White Panel bagged six posts including president, while pro-BNP-Jamaat Blue Panel clinching eight including general secretary in Supreme Court Bar Association election.
AM Amin Uddin of White Panel was declared winner as president with 3,225 votes, while his closest rival AJ Mohammad Ali of Blue Panel only managed to get 2,443 votes, reports BSS.
AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon of Blue Panel was elected general secretary for the seventh consecutive time with 3,056 votes, defeating White Panel’s Abdun Noor Dulal, who gave Khokon a good fight with 2,649 votes.
Abdul Baten of Blue Panel and Md Jasim Uddin of White Panel were elected vice-presidents with 2,856 and 2,849 votes respectively. The post of treasurer went to Blue Panel with Imam Hossain bagging 2,947 votes.
Qazi Shamsul Hasan Shuvo of White Panel got 2,729 votes and Sharif U Ahammed of Blue Panel got 2,722 votes, becoming two assistant secretaries for the 2019-20 tenure.
White Panel’s Afifa Afroz Rani, Chanchal Kumar Biswas, Md Shamim Sardar and Blue Panel’s Qazi Akhter Hossain, Rashida Alim Oishy, Mohammad Osman Chowdhury and Syeda Shahin Ara Laili were declared winners as members of the SC Bar Association.
The voting was held peacefully and in a festive mood on March 13and 14. Voters cast their ballots through 44 polling booths. A total of 5,821 voters out of 7,825 exercised their franchise in the two-day polls.
Supreme Court Bar superintendant Nimesh Chandra Das said a total of 33 candidates took part in the election against 14 posts. Of them, seven were secretarial posts and seven executive members, he added.
Senior lawyer AY Moshiuzzaman conducted the poll as chief election commissioner.
