The High Court today expressed its resentment on Department of Environment (DoE) for not taking necessary steps in checking growing air pollution in Dhaka.
“The steps taken so far to check air pollution have disappointed us. We are angry,” the court said, reports BSS.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader came up with the observations and asked director of DoE Md Ziaul Haque to appear before it on April 10 to explain his agency’s position.
The court also asked the director general of DoE to submit a report on the level of air pollution in the capital and the steps taken to check this, on that day.
“Air is getting polluted by the dusts in the areas, where construction work for Metrorail and elevated expressway are going on. We need Metrorail, but it is also necessary to check air pollution as well. We need to stop these to save our children,” the court said.
The court came up with the observations while hearing a writ filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB).
