HC issues rule for declaring Uttara Gonobhaban as Nat’l Heritage

The High Court (HC) today issued a rule asking the authorities to explain why Uttara Gonobhaban shall not be declared as National Heritage.

The High Court also asked officials including public works secretary, tourism secretary, director general of Department of Archaeology and deputy commissioner of Natore to explain why erecting signboard of new project to change the existing design shall not be declared illegal, BSS reported.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader issued the rule after holding hearing on a writ filed in this regard.

The writ was filed yesterday, challenging initiative to build new structure on the premises of former royal palace of the maharajas of Dighapatia in Natore, changing the main design of the palace.

Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Farzana Sharmin filed the writ on public interest.
