The ruling Awami-League (AL) nominated candidate Atiqul Islam was elected mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) by-election with a big margin of votes.
He secured 8,39,302 votes with ‘Boat’ symbol while his nearest contestant Shafin Ahmed of Jatiya Party bagged 52,429 votes with ‘plough’ symbol, reports BSS.
Returning Officer (RO) of DNCC polls Abul Kashem announced the results of 1,295 centers at the RO office at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre on Thursday.
Three other candidates – – Anisur Rahman Dewan National People’s Party’s (NPP), Shahin Khan of People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) and independent candidate Abdur Rahim– contested the by-election to DNCC mayoral post.
The mayoral post fell vacant after the death of Anisul Huq on November 30, 2017.
