5 killed in ‘gunfights’ in 4 districts

Five people were killed in separate ‘gunfights’ with law enforcers in Cumilla, Mymensingh, Cox’s Bazar and Khulna districts on Thursday night and Friday.

In Mymensingh, Abdur Rashid, 50, an alleged drug traders, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Trishal bus stand area last night.

Officer-in-charge of district DB police Shah Kamal Akand said tipped of that a group of drug traders would gather in the area to share money of drug trade a team of DB police conducted a drive.

Sensing their presence, the drug traders opened fire on the policemen, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight, leaving Rashid injured.

Doctors declared him dead when he was taken to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

In Cumilla, Md Al-Amin, a ‘robber’, was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Jharinakdi in Titas upazila on Thursday night.

In Cox’s Bazar, Bellal Hossen, 25, an alleged yaba trader and Nurul Alam, 38, a suspected robber, were killed in separate ‘shootouts’ at Domdomia and Katabunia areas early Friday respectively.

In Khulna, Masud Rana alias Masud, a ‘drug traders’, was killed in separate gunfight with members of law enforcers at Dighir Par area at 3:15am.

Deputy police commissioner Maniruzzaman Mithu said when a patrol team of police chased a group of drug traders in nthe area around 3:15am they opened fire on the policemen, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.

Masud, who sustained injuries during the gunfight, was declared dead when he was taken to Khulna Medical College and Hospital, he said.
