No chemical warehouse will be allowed in Old Dhaka: DSCC mayor

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon today said no chemical warehouse will be allowed in the old part of the Capital Dhaka.

“The ongoing drive for the eviction of chemical and flammable substance warehouses will continue…no chemical warehouse would be allowed here,” the DSCC mayor said after concluding the rescue operation in the city’s Chalkbazar fire incident this afternoon, reports BSS.

He said: “Tough measures will be taken to remove chemical warehouses from the Old Dhaka”.

Noting that a committee has been formed to probe the devastating fire incident that broke out in Chalkbazar area last night, Khokon said after getting the probe report, strict action will be taken against the people responsible for the fire incident.

The Chalkbazar fire incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Wednesday night that claimed 70 lives, including three children and five women, so far.
