HC summons editor of Bangladesh Bank’r Itihash

The High Court today summoned editor of Bangladesh Bank’r Itihash (History of Bangladesh Bank) over allegations of distorting history in the book.

A High Court division bench comprising Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali passed the order, asking Shubhankar Saha, the editor of the book, to appear before the court on March 12, reports BSS.

Following a writ in this regard, the High Court on October 2, 2018, directed the finance secretary to form a probe committee to investigate the matter.

The committee submitted its report, suggesting the history was indeed distorted by not including the picture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the book, instead publishing pictures of infamous Monayem Khan and Ayub Khan.

“The court asked the editor of the book to appear before it on March 12 and explain his position why history has been distorted in the book. The court also asked authorities concerned to withdraw all copies of the book from the market and ensure no copies can remain in public,” Barrister ABM Altaf Hossain, who moved the writ petition, filed in this regard, told newsmen.

The court in its observations said distorting history is ‘unpardonable crime’.
